Ordinary? Extraordinary.

“Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!” Psalm 34:8

As I sit in my car, waiting for Wednesday night kids classes to release, I am suddenly captivated by the presence of God’s goodness in my life. There are countless moments every day He shows His goodness; and there are countless moments I am too busy to see His hands at work, and His intentional timing in the ordinary.

I woke up with His breath in my lungs.

I heard little footsteps run towards my bedroom door before alarm clocks went off.

I heard my sweet boy ask “mama come snuggle before you leave”.

I kissed the love of my life goodbye at my car door.

I laughed and smiled with a close friend.

I lost myself in worship at a red light.

I smiled at a stranger, and they smiled back.

I saw a sky painted beautiful shades of orange and pink.

I stood next to my daughter as she raised her hands in worship.

I heard giggles, joyful cheers, happy screeches as friends reunited after 3 long days apart.

How can I ignore His goodness, when he surrounds me with it moment by moment? How can I live a life in busy ignorance when I am so deeply and richly blessed? I don’t want to take these gifts for granted. I don’t want to forget his daily blessings and consistent presence in every single part of my life.

Life is ordinary; but how can I forget that this ordinary life is everything I’ve ever longed for and prayed for? In his goodness I get to live these beautiful days so frequently that they have become my “ordinary” and that thought takes my breath away.
